JMU inks three-year contract extension for women's BB Coach Sean O'Regan

James Madison Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne has announced a three-year contract extension for women's basketball Head Coach Sean O'Regan that will keep him under contract through the 2024-25 season.

"I'm glad to extend Sean and keep him on board as our head coach with JMU women's basketball," Bourne said. "This is a program with so much history and tradition, and Sean has been a big part of that over the years. He has cultivated a terrific culture within the program and has an exciting staff in place for this season. There have been some tough breaks for this program over the last three years, which otherwise would have featured one or more league titles and NCAA appearances with this squad. As we move into the Sun Belt, we truly expect this team to compete near the top of the league from day one."

Since taking over the program ahead of the 2016-17 season following the departure of JMU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022 inductee coach Kenny Brooks, O'Regan has compiled a record of 130-54 (.706). He has led the Dukes to three WNIT appearances, including a trip to the semifinals in 2019. During his time in Harrisonburg, O'Regan has coached two CAA Players of the Year, three CAA Rookies of the Year, one CAA Sixth Player of the Year and a two-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year in Kayla Cooper-Williams

"I'm extremely thankful for the trust that Jeff Bourne and President Alger have in me to continue to lead this program," expressed O'Regan. "JMU will always be a special place for me and I look forward to a long future here."

O'Regan enters his seventh season leading the Dukes at the start of the 2022-23 season. He is set to return key-contributor Kiki Jefferson, who became the 32nd player in JMU women's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career points milestone during her junior campaign.
