City Man Arrested for Shooting into a Vehicle

The Harrisonburg Police Department has arrested Devontay Phillips, 19 of Harrisonburg, for a City shooting. On June 8, 2022 at 11:20 p.m. officers responded to the 7-11 on N. Mason Street for reports of shots fired. The investigation revealed that there was a verbal argument in the parking lot between several males. As an occupied vehicle left the scene, Phillips allegedly fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. All involved parties immediately fled the scene while bystanders called 911. There were no injuries reported during this incident.

Detectives from HPD’s Major Crimes Unit identified Devontay Phillips as the shooter. Phillips has been charged with the following:

• Two counts of Attempted Malicious Wounding

• Reckless handling of a firearm

• Shooting into an occupied vehicle

• Discharging a firearm within the City limits

Phillips is being held at the Rockingham County Regional Jail without bond.
