According to online reports, Rockingham County Parks and Rec has decided to end the after school childcare program at county elementary schools for the 2022-23 school year. The department began the program over 30 years ago and has run it every year.
The change was announced by county schools this week.
The cause for the ending is lack of staff. Officials with the Parks and Rec department said that even running it during the 2021-2022 school year was problematic as they had staffing issues last year as well.
