Driver charged after crash downs powerlines, snarls traffic in Harrisonburg

A driver has been charged after a crash took down power lines and further snarling traffic in Harrisonburg Friday evening.

A single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. that led to the closure of the Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Reservoir Street intersection causing extensive delays and backups throughout the area for several hours.

City officials have allegedly charged the driver with failure to maintain control of his vehicle and being unlicensed.

Due to its location, the only effect of the downed power lines was at the Hardees location at that corner.
